– Monday Muse –
Dear One, well here I am, behind on absolutely everything and, newly enrolled in a twelve-week class. It’s called Coaches Training, a type of discipleship training. Was enrolling my idea? No. Do I have time for it? No. Was I looking to fill a void. No. Did I succumb to peer pressure? Hmm? Well, yes to pressure, but not peer. A peer would be someone of my same age or class, and this pressure came from the longest living, ageless being in existence, and from a class higher than any other ever known, and on top of that, a class consisting of only three. Yes, that is right, just three.
By now you have figured out that I am referring to God, His Son, and the Holy Spirit. If you are wondering how I can attribute my enrollment to God, I think that I can prove it to you. For similar things have been happening for the last 41 years, ever since I started trying to live life as a disciple of Christ, as mentioned in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Certainly these things have not happened because 41 years ago I became somebody special. No, not at all. It is because the Holy Spirit became someone SPECIAL to me. It began to happen once I learned to recognize His still small voice.
Since then, out of necessity, my husband, has done all he can to keep me from taking on more than can reasonably be done. But a month ago, to my surprise, he walked out of the computer room, having had just read about our church’s Coaches Training, and said, “You should take the class! You could be of help.” I looked at him, and said, “That didn’t come from you,” and he agreed. “No, it didn’t.” I went to the computer, knowing little about the class, and signed up. For I had learned long ago that obedience takes you where you do not want to go and then reveals the desires of two hearts…yours and God’s…oh joy…joy. What will this joy be, a lost soul finding Christ? Perhaps. At some point, God will likely make it clear, He almost always does.
Is the Holy Spirit whispering in your ear? Might He be asking you to read your Bible…first? Call your neighbor? Finish what you started?
On first hearing, or sensing, what the Holy Spirit desires of us, it is easy to resist His directive. But after a few times of stepping out in faith, in the faith that He will supply what we lack, we eventually discover our life’s true purpose…fully trusting, fully serving…Him…God, our Father.
“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you,
who you have from God, and you are not your own? 1 Corinthians 6:19
