NEW POST 09-14-20 Dear One, what is it about taking a shower that often brings forth some bright idea? Is there something about cleaning the body that clears the mind? Does hot water flowing over a naked body awaken a higher level of brain activity? It doesn’t seem likely, and yet, the experience seems to be a common occurrence.
Not long ago, while showering, I found myself in an imaginary, Christian-witness conversation with someone, somewhere. Who or where, I do not know, but the conversation moved in this direction:
Someone – “I don’t believe that there is a God.”
Me – “Do you know my neighbor, Sally?”
Someone – “No”
Me – “Why not?”
Someone – “I have never met her.”
Me – “So in order to know Sally you would need to spend time with her?”
Someone – “Yes.”
Me – “It is the same with God.”
Isn’t that profound, yet remarkably simple?
The steamy conversation ended there, but one can imagine, the person might then have asked how can I spend time with God? At that point it would be easy for me or you to make things complicated. But let’s keep it simple, and leave the guiding to the Holy Spirit by saying something like “Ask God to reveal Himself to you, then carefully read John, the fourth book in the New Testament. Then if you would like to talk more about a relationship with God, just call me.”
For witnessing, you might find this helpful too. Sometimes, when I am on the run, if I am talking faith to someone I seldom see, or perhaps a stranger, I point them to this website, and the sections on Making God a Priority or Going Deeper. If possible, I give him, or her, my phone number so that we can carry on our conversation.
Hopefully, you and I will always be ready to respond to both believers, and unbelievers, with words full of God’s Truth and Love.
Sadly, many people think that God hides Himself, but the truth is, He waits for us to come to Him. Out of His great love, He gives us the freedom to choose whom we will serve. When we seek Him, we find the following verse to be oh so true.
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13
Blessings,
Susanne
