Dear One, lately with all the covid craziness, moral decay, corruption in Congress, and agenda driven media I, and many others, are wondering if this might be the time of Jesus’ return…the time of the Rapture, when believers around the globe will be swept up into heaven, making way for the Tribulation – the final days.
Conversations usually go something like this:
Friend, “I’m wondering if we are nearing Jesus’ return?”
Me, “I hope so.”
Friend, “But what about family and friends who are not yet saved?”
Me, “That thought is heartbreaking, and used to trouble me, but a long time ago, I heard a pastor say, “If you are not anxiously awaiting Christ’s return you might not be a true lover of Christ.” He said something like – Our greatest love is meant to be for God – above all others, and that our heart’s desire should be for His return.”
From that point, conversations vary greatly. I have yet to add to the conversations what the pastor said at the close of his sermon. For he added, if you are not anxiously awaiting the Return, you had better do some faith-checking. Ouch.
(The following paragraph includes my personal image of Christ descending.)
Oh how right-on the pastor was. Can you imagine this: Christ’s believers all across the globe, at the same instant, looking up into a bright sky, whether it be night or day, and seeing Christ in ALL HIS NEWLY REVEALED GLORY descending, AND us responding like this? “Lord, Lord, not now, not yet. We are not ready. Come another time.” Oh the horror of it. Pastor’s topic was wisely chosen.
The wonderful blessing is, that as God takes His rightful place, first place, in our hearts and lives, the love we have for others grows immensely; everyone is loved more than ever before. Such love intensifies our prayers, especially our prayers for others. We then begin to love even those who hate us. And that allows us to live out the greatest of commandments: to love one another… which can lead friends, family, and even strangers to faith in God.
As our love for God and His Son grows, our hearts begin to burn with anticipation for Jesus’ return, and the nearing of the time when every knee will bow. Sad, but true, according to Scripture, when all has played out, for those who still live in rejection of Him, it will be too late to receive Eternal Life.
“For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. It is written;
“ ‘As surely as I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow before me;
Every tongue will confess to God.’ ” Romans 14:10b-11
