– Monday Muse –
Dear Ladies, is the rear side of a female elephant her best feature? Even for the most shapely, well-exercised, weight-appropriate of all of elephants, either African bush, Indian, or Asian, I say, “No, no buts about it.” And I think the same is true of our physiques, and that it is time to take a look back. We are all aware that today’s casual style is one which emphasizes our ‘behinds.’ Who came up with that, the l-o-n-g pointy shoe designer?
I was out of high school at the time, but I remember in the early seventies it was the style for high school girls to wear a long-legged, panty girdle. Stylishly worn, it was just barely visible under a short skirt. Even the skinniest of girls wore them, one girl actually walked right out of hers! Yes, embarrassing.
The other day, before leaving the house, using a hand mirror, I checked out my rearview image. I left the house wondering if while out in public, I should consider walking backwards. I understand walking backwards is great for those suffering from shin splints – which I do. Have you ever wondered what physical image we leave behind? Is it of our behinds? Please take a moment, close your eyes, and discover what images emerge. That’s what I discovered, too. Surprising, isn’t it?
In hindsight, is this the image we want to leave with others? After my last rearview mirror check, I know that it is not the one I want to leave. Of course until casual styles change, our remedies are either long tops or tunic-type dresses. I wonder what designers have in store for us next?
Thankfully, we can be sure that the most important of all images we are to leave with others – is the image of God. May that image be indelible.
“Therefore be imitators of God as dear children
and walk in love, as Christ also has loved us
and given Himself for us, an offering and a
sacrifice to God…” Ephesians 5:1-2a
Blessings,
Susanne
