– Monday Muse –
Dear One, it was Sunday, we were in church, singing, during the worship part of the service, when I thought about all the Christians around the globe. I thought of those who had risen earlier that Sunday morning for worship, those currently worshiping, and those who would be rising for worship. Of course, the number was not as great as God desired, or as Christ’s disciples desired, but at that moment, I was joyfully proclaiming God for who He was, and feeling grateful for the privilege.
Thinking about God’s people across the entire globe rising, rising, to honor Him, made me think of a ‘wave,’ a mega version of the wave seen at sports events. In my mind’s eye, I saw a World Wide Wave, rising with the sun, rising to sing, to worship, a wave, highlighted by glorious rays of rising sunshine, traveling three-hundred and sixty degrees around the globe for twenty-four hours until it reached the International Date Line, where the earliest of the riser’s day had closed. It was glorious. After the last song, we moved on to the sermon. The vision faded, and I was left wondering, where is the International Date Line?
I discovered that it is at the Chatham Islands, eight-hundred kilometers, or four-hundred, and ninety-seven miles east of New Zealand. Ten small islands make up the archipelago which has grown to a population of six-hundred. It is those six hundred people who have the first opportunity to welcome the sun, and its Creator into each new day.
Imagine my pleasure, when the next morning, my book marker was at:
“Let the name of the Lord be praised,
both now and forevermore.
From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets,
the name of the LORD is to be praised.
The LORD is exalted over all the nations,
His glory above the heavens.
Who is like the LORD our God,
The One who sits enthroned on high,
who stoops down to look
on the heavens and the earth?” Psalm 113:2-6
As I finish up this essay, it happens to be Saturday. So tomorrow, once again, those on the Chatham Islands will be the first to welcome in the Lord’s Day, and another World Wide Wave.
Blessings,
Susanne
