– Secret Place Insights –
Dear One, while sitting across the table from a long-time friend, after much conversation about the rejection of God outside of, and actually within, some churches, she tenderly said to me, “Susanne, you cannot protect God.”
I looked up at her…dismayed, placed my teacup on the saucer, and thought, protect God? I had never even considered the ludicrous idea of protecting God. Who could do that? I certainly could not. I just get so discouraged and disappointed when people refuse to honor God, or give Him the respect due His Name.
But that train of thought never left the track, it kept pushing forward. For my friend’s words had touched a place in my heart which proved her cupid’s arrow of compassion had hit its mark.
My thoughts ran on…it’s true, that is what I do. No wonder, when I fall short, again, or hear, or see, or read about an affront to God my heart becomes deeply grieved. I am not only disappointed that God is dishonored, I do, in my heart of hearts, try to protect Him.
My friend added, “You cannot protect God. He is the victor. He wins in the End. Whatever happens in this world, He allows it for eternal purposes.” I sat back in my chair…relieved.
My friend’s words were not new to me, for our small group had taken three years to discuss Revelation, the last book in the Bible. It detailed Christ’s victory… much like the signs in the Old Testament point to the coming of the Savior, Jesus Christ.
But in the heat of the battle, when God is being dissed, I quickly lose sight of the victory to come, get lost in the current battle, and without realizing it try to protect our Lord. Hmm…like an ant, and a weak one at that, trying to protect a lion. Now that is ludicrous!
The conversation with my friend took place a number of weeks ago, and has since then brought me great comfort. Oh, I still get concerned over that which disrespects God and His Word, but I do not lose hope. For I am reminding myself that in the end…God wins, and He wins mightily. And oh my, He is glorified. Sweet!
“I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In this world
You will have trouble, but take heart, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
Blessings for another week,
Susanne
