Dear One, do you plan on making the most of this day, or have you made the most of it? Oswald Chambers, an early twentieth-century evangelist and teacher, author of My Utmost for His Highest, writes that if you do not invite God into your day, you will work on a wrong level the whole day long.
I am sharing Chambers’ words with you for I have found them to be true. There is such a difference between purposing to walk with God, or ignoring Him, and just stepping into the day.
You may ask, “Well, how can I leave the Holy Spirit behind when He is indwelling within me?”
While it is true that we cannot leave Him behind, it is also true that in order for the relationship between God and Man to be close it must be kept active. It is somewhat like a computer, though on…if there is no activity…it goes to sleep. Well, the Holy Spirit certainly does not go to sleep, it is us that does that. The Holy Spirit will not remain active in a relationship where He is ignored. He is after all God, as a third part of the Trinity. He is our connector with Christ, and God the Father.
For a daily download of spiritual guidance, and an ever alert ear to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit, we must keep from falling into sleep mode.
If you haven’t taken time to welcome God afresh today, why not do it now? And, may I offer you this comfort? No matter how neglectful I have been to God, when I purpose to be with Him, He has never yet done anything but warmly welcome me into His fellowship. He seems to love each of His children…wayward of not.
“Get into the habit of dealing with God
about everything. Unless in the first
waking moment of the day you
learn to fling the door wide back
and let God in, you will work
on a wrong level all day;
but swing the door wide open
and pray to your Father in secret,
and every public thing will be
stamped with the presence of God.
Oswald Chambers
Living life within a daily awareness of the Presence of God can give each day purpose, and make what appears to be mundane, a quiet adventure.
If making a place for God in your daily life is new to you, be assured that it is difficult. That is why there are helps under the Making God a Priority page.
