Dear One, when my oldest child was five and I was expecting my fifth, as I have previously written, a neighbor of mine suggested that I abort my baby. She followed that up with, “I am going to have quality not quantity. I was surprised, but pleased with my quick retort, “I am going to have both quality and quantity.”
I could have never agreed with my neighbor, but I understood what prompted her suggestion. Ron and I were living in a two-bedroom mobile home. Now don’t get the wrong impression. Our little home was neat, and organized with a place for everything. I could even nicely host my women’s group there. However, shortly before the fifth arrived, we bought a house in town, not far from a wonderful beach.
As each of the children arrived, I marveled at what I discovered. When I had but one child, I loved her with all my heart. When the others followed, my time had to be divided with the increased responsibilities, but not the love. I could love each one with my entire heart.
It seems impossible, but because love is derived from God, who is the source of love, love never has to be divided. Mathematically impossible, but with God all things are possible. For Man is not given a specific allotment of love. No, as one’s love for God increases, the capacity for loving others, even strangers, skyrockets to theretofore unknown heights. For love, the love which comes from the source of love, God the Father, is absolutely limitless.
Another marvelous discovery is that God loves each of us with sacrificial love. For He sacrificed His perfect Son on the cross, not for some, but for EACH one of us. Even though, according to Scripture, there are times when He does not like us. It seems that just as most earthly parents continue to love their offspring through their worst moments, God continues to love us through ours.
Love is so amazing. Another aspect of love is that we can sincerely love those who reject our love. How do I know that? We are called by God to a lifetime of loving others. God is the perfect example. In the midst of Man’s defiant rejection, God continues to call all to Himself.
An interesting truth is – that in our pursuit of God, as our love for Him increases, He produces within us a higher quality of love, and ever growing sacrificial love. There is so much one can say about love, but this is merely an essay, not a book. There is a book which deals beautifully with the subject…better than any other. Perhaps you sang about it in Vacation Bible school?
The B..I..B..L..E that’s the book for me.
I stand alone on the Word of God
the B..I..B..L..E.
“We love because he (God) first loved us.” 1 John 4:19
This is not meant to suggest that everyone enters God’s Heaven. For this is not an essay on God’s judgment. For now, I am speaking of God’s love – mine, yours, and God’s. (If you have questions on eternal life, or eternal death, you are welcome to use Contact for further discussion.)
