– Monday Muse –
Dear One, one evening, a long time ago, while my husband Ron and I were gathered with our small group Bible study friends – talking about temptation – my husband confessed – to a SWEET temptation. When he did, he took the rest of us from puzzling disbelief to ten-minutes of uproarious laughter.
Stage Setting:
After Ron retired from teaching, he picked up a part-time job as a medical courier. One dark evening, after finishing his route, and delivering the medical specimens to the hospital, he was especially tired and hungry. As he made his way to the parking garage, there was no one but him on the ground level. Just as he was about to open the car door, he noticed something in the car beside his. There on the passenger seat was a large, opened bag of Tootsie Rolls. Instantly he thought, I could just take a few. Then came, “What? What? That’s just CRAZY! Where did THAT thought come from? From me? From where? He turned, opened his door and drove away, shaken and confused by the unexplainable impulse that accompanied the crazy thought.
Sometime later, there was a knock on our door. It was one of our small group friends. He had a metal sign in his hands which looked like a huge Tootsie Roll. He found it at a garage or antique shop. He thought that Ron should have it as a reminder to help keep him on the straight and narrow.
Over the years, when talking about Satan’s desire to lead us astray, or any other such type conversation, someone often mentions Ron and the Tootsie Rolls. Now if any of our small group friends has a temptation he or she wants to talk about, it has evolved to, “Oh, I have a Tootsie Roll thing.”
Every act, either good or bad, no matter how small, makes a huge difference in a Man’s spiritual walk. He is always either moving forward with God – or spiraling downward with Satan. Every choice we make matters. Good begets good, bad begets bad. Choices matter, even if they appear to be as small as a Tootsie Roll.
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil
and he will flee from you.” James 4:7
Blessings,
Susanne
